Website: Information

WebsiteP26

For the main part of the website, as it will be and informational and educational site, I wanted to use interesting facts that are displayed within the planets. I have had a go at this with the same typography as the titles, though this time more uniformed so that it is easier to read and will be more serious. Though, I don’t think that this is appropriate for my target audience because of the quantity of text within the planet and how it looks overpowering. I think that I could change this up by making it more interactive using the shards or further imagery/ illustration that engages the audience and is in-keeping with the rest of the website.

WebsiteP30

To develop it from the other planet I have changed the colour of the typography to make it slightly more interesting and to juxtapose the facts so that they are easier to read. Again, I like how this looks and the composition of it overall on the whole website works- but for the audience as well it could be positioned better. An idea I have had for this is to use shorter facts, more like statistics, so that this can be displayed interestingly and be interactive with the rest of the website, which would also be more appropriate too.

Website: Further pages

All of these pages have a similar aesthetic but I wanted them to slightly vary between themselves to represent the individual planets.

WebsiteP17

As Mercury is a plain looking planet I had to choose the colours that best represented it while still making it interesting for the audience. On the planet there is the texture of the planet where I have decreased the opacity so that it doesn’t overpower the page. This made the grey and purple tones more obvious, therefore, that is why I have chosen them. I like the contrast of this because it is quite a bright planet as it is the closet one to the sun, so all of the brightness works well.

WebsiteP19

Venus is the fiery planet and I think that this is represented in my page design for it. I used three different shades of orange and yellow to contrast the perspective of the triangles and also make the page look exciting. These shards around the edge will slightly move while the user is on this page to continue the interaction. I have used, similarly to Mercury, the texture of Venus and lowered the opacity again so that it isn’t only a flat shape. I think that this works against the distinctively bold shapes around the planet.

WebsiteP20

Because Saturn has the rings this planet was slightly different. Saturn’s rings are actually really big in comparison to the planet, but on this page I couldn’t make them as big as they actually are because they took over the whole design and I wanted the pages to show continuity between them. Therefore, I made the rings smaller around the planet and I think that this work really well because of the angle, plus with the texture of the planet and simplicity of the colour you can still tell that they are there, though they are subtle and don’t ruin the overall aesthetic. The simple tones of brown and grey work with this planet, and I still feel that it looks interesting and works because of the composition and layout.

WebsiteP22

Neptune’s deep blue colour is great for this page because of the intensity and how it will capture the audience’s attention. I used darker shades of blue for it because of this, plus some of the other planets have a lot of blue in them too so I still wanted them to differentiate between each other. I like how this looks overall because of the boldness and vibrance of the colours and the subtle texture on the planet brings it forward and separates it from the shards and the background.

WebsiteP24

As Uranus, again, is mainly blue it was harder to change the design to make it stand out against the others. As the planet was a lighter blue this meant that the design could revolve around this. I think this was a good way to continue to make it exciting for the target audience and the vibrance of the blues work great together with the planet in the centre. The planet has a shadow and a subtle texture overlapped on it so that it adds the 3D element and reinforces the perspective direction.

WebsiteP25

The final planet, Pluto, had a range of tones and colours which I think work for the shards. These colours are very different to the vibrant ones which are on the other pages, though I think these still work because they make Pluto stand out and they all blend together with the planet in the centre. I like the arrangement of the typography and the readability of it which is appropriate for the target audience. Overall I think that all of these pages work and answer the brief well, while also making an interesting design which is interactive and engaging.

Website: Mars

WebsiteP16

The colours on Mars are my favourites throughout the whole website that I have created so far. This is because they all work together to create an interesting design and I think it emphasises the perspective direction that I am looking at. I wanted to change this page with darker tones because it reflects ‘the red planet’ better and with the two/three bold colours they contrast well with the darker grey tones. I like the simplicity of the white text alongside this as it emphasises the interaction and navigation for the audience.

WebsiteP18

This is my final design for the Mars page. I slightly developed it because I felt like the planet was too orange, and as it is known as the red planet, this worked better. It also makes the bold colours around the edge more distinct and emphasises the white glow around the planet which shows that it is the focal point in the page. For the next page of this I think that I could experiment with it by displaying the information interestingly so that it captures the target audience and engages them, while also making it interactive and in-keeping with the other pages.

Website: Earth

WebsiteP12

Earth has bold and vibrant colours which I think make the design more exciting for this page. I kept the same layout as the Jupiter page as this would create continuity but it would still be interesting for the target audience and continue to be interactive. The earth design is simple because of the two bold colours and the typography flows between the shapes within. Again, I kept the white type because of the boldness of how it looks and how it stands out against the colours on the planet. I love the slight variation in shades on the shards around the edge too, therefore, I think this design is successful to the brief and is exciting for the audience.

WebsiteP14

As the website is an informational website that displays fun/exciting facts about the planets, I wanted to try and display this while trying to keep the aesthetic the same throughout. Instead of just typing them out I tried to arrange them around the design in the planet, though I still don’t feel that this works that well. I am going to experiment with this to see if I can create an interesting and interactive way to display the information. However, I still think that works well as a composition and is suitable for the target audience.

In addition, in the corner of all of these pages I have made a home button that is in the style of the planets. This is because the navigation could be confusing for some of the users, especially if they are young, and this button will take them back to the solar system navigation page to explore the other planets too. I think this works well because it blends into the shards but it continues to work with the design and makes the website easier to use in general.

Website: Jupiter

WebsiteP10

This is my first design for the pages that will display information and interesting facts about the individual planets. From the navigation page with the solar system the user will click on the planet which they want to discover more about and it will take them to this page. The shards from around the edge will form around the planet, gently moving to make it 3D and interactive for the audience. The planet will always be in the centre as all the focus is on it. I liked the idea of changing the shards to the colours that are used on the planet as this make the overall aesthetic better. It makes the page flow more and also distinguishes between pages which makes the navigation easier.

WebsiteP11

In the first layout the typography was arranged in one single line and I didn’t feel like it worked alongside the business of the design. Therefore, I developed it by separating each letter by making them different sizes and positioning them at different angles. I liked how they were positioned inside the planet in the first one so I kept this element, and by changing this composition it makes the type work together with the aesthetic of the whole design. The white typography makes it easily readable, plus the sans-serif works in harmony with boldness of all of the shapes- therefore, I think the design works well for the audience as well as looking interesting and exciting.
