Infographic: The start

For the infographic I knew that I wanted to focus on one particular planet so that I could research more into a specific area. I chose Earth because of the vibrancy which I could use to contrast against all of the other elements in the infographic, but as well as knowing most about this planet. I continued to research for facts and interesting information about the planet as I was developing the infographic so that I could get as much done as possible. I continued with the same design from the website as I think the bold vector based imagery works extremely well and it will also make the infographic bold and recognisable, continually making it easily readable when it comes to the type.

As I wasn’t 100% certain on the information that was going to be displayed I began to develop the website using my prior knowledge of the planet. I didn’t want there to singularly be facts floating around the centred Earth as this wouldn’t work for my target audience and it wouldn’t look aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, I came up with the idea of dismantling the earth down to it’s layers as this would be informational and suitable for my audience. I placed this in the corner as I felt that this worked better than shifting the centred Earth as that connotes the subject matter of the infographic and it is also the first thing that your attention is drawn too. Moreover, the second Earth will have several shades of blue to represent the layers within the planet so that it would continue with the theme of simplicity and work in harmony with the rest of the visuals. Continually, I feel that the starry background portrays the direction of perspective that I am going for, along with giving it a bit of texture and depth which is better than having a flat background.

For the aesthetic of my infographic I wanted to keep in theme with the other graphics which I have designed on my website and smartphone application. The vibrant colours and defined shapes worked extremely well on this format so I have continued this by researching into similar ones. All of the infographics which I have researched into all have a simplistic colour scheme which distribute the facts and divide them so that it makes it look interesting and not overpowering. The elements that I like the most are the visuals which are relevant in order to convey the information creatively. The usage of graphs or bold characters is used cleverly to portray all of the information which I will take into my designs by combining the use of text.

I have decided to choose one particular planet to focus on so that it is more specific and I can stay to a simplistic colour scheme that emphasises the design more. I will try not to make it not too text heavy as I have found that this is distracting and the information can be displayed more easily by these simplistic visuals and vectors.
