Smartphone Development

SmartphoneTattoo5

From the previous smartphone designs I have tried to make the design more consistent and less busy. I have continued the design from the top header to the bottom of the page also, as I think this gives it another quality. However, I haven’t decided upon a composition for the buttons/type as I don’t think that this is working as a layout. The buttons aren’t bold or recognisable, and it could be confusing for the target audience. I could try a different colour palette to make this stand out further, or even try another design without the wheel to portray the brand differently. Either way, on hindsight, I need to play around with it more until I come up with a design that captures the brand perfectly; as I don’t think this is doing justice for the logo currently.

Sticking to this composition I added further lines (using the rope) to separate the buttons and make them stand out more. I didn’t like this still, and with the middle of the design standing our I needed to develop it so that it focused on the navigation. Thus, I chose to have the background of two of the buttons black so that they would stand out and contrast against the rest of the design. This was in-keeping with the colour scheme because it encompasses the colours from the logo, and I think the they work better as a button. However I still didn’t like the wheel in the design and how this was central to the page and now divided off because of the ropes.

To make the aesthetic more consistent with the colour scheme I added a background to the middle of the design where the ship wheels were placed. I decided upon this because they were almost hovering in the middle of the design and I, personally, didn’t like it. Consequently, with the colour in the background it does make the design stand out further and could work as a home page for this format, though I don’t think that I will keep it. I am going to go back to the website layout to see how I could develop that further in order to capture the nature of the brand. Then, once I am happy with that design and I think that it reflects the audience’s interests and style, I will move onto this platform.

Despite these designs not being successful, I am happy that I tried it because it allowed me to experiement with the composition of the smartphone layout and, consequently, I have learnt what does and doesn’t work when it comes to this format.
