As I had designed the logo and I was happy with the final outcome, I decided to begin making the products for the company to build up it’s identity. I have started with the business card as I had all of the elements to make this. I have used the blue which is used in small doses to start off the design. I chose to use a grey on the back of the card as this would contrast against the blue. I’m happy with the positioning of the type because it looks professional, and with the contrast of colours it is easily readable and suitable for the brand. The Octopus works extremely well by itself on the front of the card because it is recognisable and it works for the brand. However, I don’t think that the blue and grey works for the brand.
Thus, I developed the business card to follow a monochrome colour palette as I felt that this was more appropriate for the identity of the brand and the target audience. The front of the card with the octopus now has a white background, and I love how this looks now. The logo stands out because of the juxtaposition of colours, as well as the shadow underneath the octopus to contrast it against both layers. The back of the card used a light grey, instead of dark, and I changed the text to black.
Altogether, there are only three colours used on this product and I think that it has worked very well. By doing this, I have decided to go back to my website platforms and develop theme with monochrome colour palettes. I feel that this is the best direction for the brand, as well as making it recognisable and appealing the the target audience; as it more professional and they would more likely go for a tattoo at this business.
