Because of the major section of the target audience who are young, I have decided to make the website in the smartphone format as well. This is suitable for them, and it also makes the brand easily accessible when they are researching/ discovering the brand. I began with the same colour palette that I have been developing on the main website and continued it throughout this design as a basis to create the design around.
I didn’t want to follow the traditional grid layout with this layout as I thought that it would make it more exciting for the target audience. So I started off with the traditional header, just so that the navigation would be simple and make this format suitable, and experimented from there. I stayed to the colour palette which I used on the additional website to create synergy between platforms and so that the identity of the brand would be recognisable.
For the central point of this format I used the ship wheel to base the design around. This was in the two main colours that I have been using across all of the designs with a rope to divide up the page. I quite liked this because of the boldness, but I don’t feel like it was working for the brand, so I continued to develop it to see where it would lead me.
The next stage I did was trying to arrange the buttons for the navigation. Because of the unusual shapes and positions I had to make sure that the composition was bold and eye-catching as well as it being simplistic. I wasn’t happy with any of these layouts because of the busyness of the page. I attempted to include further elements of the octopus to make organising and composing the buttons, although this didn’t work too. Thus, I will continue to develop the brand and format to make an appropriate platform with an appealing aesthetic and composition for the target audience.
