From my original logo that I designed, I have developed it with more of a graphic/geometric style that is bold and eye-catching. I had this idea to make the logo look more 3D which would make it stand out, and I also think that it gives it an vibrant aesthetic. The outline of the octopus in this style would work extremely well for a logo, because of the nature of the design and how it reminds me of shards coming together. It is also creative, which represents the feel of the tattoo company and it would be suitable for the target audience.
I went on to develop this further, using a more vibrant colour scheme to contrast the shapes within the graphic as well as making it a more interesting feature for the brand. I chose to use orange and yellows for this, solely because I wanted to experiement with the slight juxtaposition of colours to make it toned and have depth. As these colours were bright, I liked how I could use them in this style that I created and it could work really well for the brand. Looking back at it now, I think that I could have chosen a blue to match the theme and to create a consistent colour palette. Although, the colour palette is still a working progress so this can be altered at the continuing stages of production.
Without the lines, I love how the octopus has turned out. The subtlety of the contrasting of tones work in this instance, and despite the business of the logo and the nature of it; you can still tell what it is and it captures the movement and ‘flow’ of tattoos. From this that I have created, I am going to progress onto changing it into different tones and colour schemes so that I can work on the colour palette for the brand as well as creating a consistent identity between platforms.
